SUMMARY:Patrick Scully “A Few Tales - Faerie and Other”
DESCRIPTION:Patrick’s Cabaret began 40 years ago\, in April of 1982. To celebrate this\, Patrick Scully returns to the American School of Storytelling  with a special Patrick’s Cabaret themed edition of “A Few Tales – Faerie and Other” \n“A Few Tales – Faerie and Other” is Patrick on stage telling stories\, his most at-home mode\, honed over decades of hosting Patrick’s Cabaret. It is modelled after TV’s “Jeopardy”. Patrick’s audience chooses among 6 categories\, with 5 choices in each category to determine the evening’s stories. The categories and stories for this show at the American School of Storytelling will be carefully chosen\, to celebrate this anniversary\, and they will be suitable for an audience of people who have known Patrick for decades\, as well as for complete strangers. \nThe Patrick’s Cabaret themed categories: \n\nThe Spaces\,\nShows\,\nArtists\,\nAudiences\,\nChallenges\,\nVictories\n\nof Patrick’s Cabaret. \nThe choices in each category – 5 decades: 1980s\, 1990s\, 2000s\, 2010s\, and 2020s. The audience determines both which stories will be told\, and the order of the stories. \nPatrick has been called a provocateur\, free speech champion\, impresario\, raconteur\, choreographer\, dancer\, performance artist\, orator\, storyteller\, pioneer. and activist. \nPatrick’s Cabaret has a special place in local performing arts history. Don’t miss this show. \n \nTeller Bio: Patrick Scully has been a professional performer since 1976\, and an independent performing artist since 1980. His performance at Dance Theater Workshop was included among the New York Times’ “Best Performances of the Year” in 1992. His work as the director of Patrick’s Cabaret was recognized in 1996 by a First Bank Sally Award for its vision\, and by a 3M/United Arts Award for Excellence. In 1993 Skyway News inducted him into its arts registry for outstanding contributions to the Twin Cities Arts. SUMMARY:Braided Stories
DESCRIPTION:Braided stories combine\, mix\, and mingle traditional and personal material. This matinee performance features three storytellers\, three different braids\, geared toward an adult audience. \nTeller Bios: \n \nTravis Wolven: Travis accidentally became a storyteller through his use of stories while language teaching to humans across the multiverse of ages and cultures. With an M.A. in Communication & Storytelling\, he is excited to continue exploring stories as an educator and performer. In particular\, he enjoys dusting off myths and legends and shining light on not too distant lived experiences. \n \nEmily Katt: Emily has had a range of career “hats” she’s worn\, all of them involving communication: educator\, former magazine editor\, veterinary professional\, and a writer of fiction\, nonfiction\, and poetry. In 2022\, she completed the Master of Arts degree in Communication and Storytelling Studies at East Tennessee State University. Now she aligns her skillsets working as Program Assistant at the International Storytelling Center\, as an ETSU storytelling adjunct instructor\, and as a performing member with the Jonesborough Storyteller’s Guild. Specializing in the art of narrative and movement\, Vianna conjures stories that blur the line between the spoken and the unspoken. DESCRIPTION:S.P. Jayaraj presents a collection of stories from Hindu Mythology revolving around our love of the earth. From stories about Vishnu’s Varaha avatar where he saves the earth from greedy demons\, to more obscure stories revolving around forest deities\, to tales found in the epics the Ramayana and Mahabharata. These stories explore our connection to nature to build up our reverence and desire to more actively protect the earth. \nTeller Bio: Satish Pothery Jayaraj a storyteller\, an author\, a podcaster\, and a creative life coach. He is the co-host of the hit podcast ‘Not Your Mother’s Mahabharata\,’ where he tells the story of the Indian epic casually and comedically. He is the author of two fantasy books The Secret of the Zipacna Dragons\, and Legacy of the Crow.
